Concerns
Acne
Acne affects up to 90% of the population at some point in their lives. Most acne is found on the face, neck, chest, back and shoulders and is a condition that is the result of clogged oil glands in the skin. While not a serious health threat, acne can have detrimental effects on self-esteem and cause scarring of the skin.
Areas of Stubborn Fat
Many people, despite adequate diet and exercise, have unwanted areas of fat that remain.
Enlarged Pores
Many people suffer from pores that appear large and dilated. Most often occurring on the nose, chin and forehead they are often the result of excess oil in the skin. While pores cannot actually open and close, the excess oil mixes with dead skin in the pore, forming a clog that causes the pore to enlarge. If the oil becomes trapped by dead skin, it can oxidize, this is how blackheads are formed.
Excessive Sweating
Sweating is a normal bodily function to maintain body temperature in warm or hotter conditions. In 2% to 3% of the population excessive perspiration can occur, so-called hyperhidrosis. This affects the quality of life for many sufferers.
Eyebrow + Lashes
Gone are the days when we were satisfied with pencil thin eyebrows and regular length lashes. We have come a long way and now we all covet the natural full brow, and thick, long dark lashes.
How Market Mall Dermatology can help?
From solutions you can brush on your brows and lashes to PRP, micro needling and laser therapy that stimulates hair growth, we have found these treatments to be highly effective and affordable for our clients. Call us today to book a complimentary consultation to find out how we can address your concern and what treatment option would be right for you.
Fine Lines & Wrinkles
As we age, it is normal for fine lines and wrinkles to begin appearing. After the age of 20 an individual’s skin produces approximately 1% less collagen each year. This means that the skin becomes thinner and more fragile with age.
Fungal Infection
Thickening of the toenails is often caused by a fungal infection. As the fungus gets under the toenail, it causes discoloration and thickening of the nail plate, and the nail starts to crumble. When fungus infects the areas between the toes and the skin of your feet, it is called athlete’s foot or tinea pedis.
Hair Loss + Thinning
Many woman experience hair loss at some point in their lives, for some of us its due to post menopause, for others it can be postnatal, physical, mental and emotional stress, thyroid and medical conditions. All hair loss is classified as androgenetic alopecia or female pattern hair loss, and regardless what causes it, it has a huge impact on a woman’s emotional well being and quality of life.
Ingrown Hairs
Ingrown hair is a condition where a hair grows sideways or curls back inward toward the skin. The condition is most prevalent among individuals with coarse or curly hair. Often it results in the infection of the hair follicle. Ingrown hairs can be a particular problem in areas where you shave and wax.
Melasma
Melasma is a common skin concern which affects mostly women. It presents as brown to gray patches on the skin. The most common areas for Melasma are the cheeks, bridge of the nose, forehead, chin, and above the upper lip. It can also appear on other parts of the body that receive higher levels of sun exposure. Melasma is hard to hide. Many people suffer for years before seeking treatment.
Rosacea
Rosacea is a chronic skin condition that is very common. The cause of it is unknown. There are 4 types including the erythematotelangiectatic type, which is basically redness and blood vessels. There is the papulopustular type which, again, consists of bumps and pustules in a central facial distribution. Type 3 is rhinophyma, in which there is an enlargement of the soft tissue of the nose. Type 4 is ocular rosacea which is manifested by eye symptoms including dryness and irritation.
Scarring
Scars are areas of fibrous tissue that replace normal skin after injury. A scar is the result of a wound repair in the skin and a natural healing process. With the exception of very minor scrapes, every wound results in some degree of scarring. Scar tissue is composed of the same collagen tissue that it replaces, but the fiber composition is different. Scar tissue is less resistant to ultraviolet radiation, and sweat glands and hair follicles do not grow back within scar tissues. If a wound heals quickly within two weeks with new formation of skin, minimal collagen will be deposited and no scar will form. Also there is some genetic disposition involved in scar formation.
Sexual Response
As people age there are changes in an individual’s sexual response cycle. For women, these changes may
include: less vasocongestion, inadequate lubrication, less expansion of the vagina, taking longer for arousal, less muscle contractions during orgasm, and/or less frequent orgasms.
Skin Tag
Skin tags is a very common condition where skin forms a small growth that can be in the creases of the neck or underarms and sometimes anywhere on the body, this happens when clusters of collagen and blood vessels are rubbed together to form the growth. Skin tags can be unsightly and in rare cases cause discomfort, call us today to find out how they can be easily removed in a quick and painless appointment.
Snoring
Snoring occurs during sleep. It involves laxity of the soft tissue which then causes a vibration that then makes the noise. There are different causes of snoring, and it is important to rule out sleep apnea, as this may require special treatment.
Spider Veins-Broken Capillaries
Broken capillaries occur when tiny blood vessels dilate and become more visible near the surface of the skin. They usually appear as streaks or blotches or have a web-like appearance, which is why they are also known as spider veins or telangiectasia. Their cause is due to environmental factors, genetic predisposition.
Stretch Marks
Stretch marks are very common. They are caused by the breakdown of collagen in the skin and basically show up as a red or purple streaks that generally fade to a white or silvery appearance over time. Stretch marks are very common in growing teenagers and after significant weight gain and during pregnancy.
Sun Damage
As we age many people develop uneven skin tone and brown spots. These are often due to hormones, excessive sun exposure and other environmental or inherited causes. Even modest sun exposure over a number of years will eventually lead to so-called photo-aging of the skin.
Unwanted Hair
Excessive hair growth in various parts of the body is relatively common. Rarely it can be a symptom of a medical condition. Quite often it is genetic. Sufferers may find it embarrassing and distressing, but it can be treated safely.
Urinary Incontinence
Urinary stress incontinence is caused by conditions such as childbirth and weight gain that stretch and weaken the pelvic floor muscles. These weaker muscles can no longer fully support the bladder, causing it to drop slightly and push against the vagina. When you can’t fully tighten the muscles that normally closes off the urethra, urine may leak when you cough, laugh, jump, sneeze, or do other activities. This is the most common type of urinary incontinence in women.
Vaginal Atrophy
Vaginal atrophy symptoms usually appear approximately 5 years after the onset of menopause and are estimated to affect up to 50% of post-menopausal women. Symptoms of vaginal atrophy are due to the termination of estrogen production by the ovaries, which occurs at menopause. This absense of estrogen can cause symptoms of vaginal itchiness, decreased lubrication, pain and/ or vaginal bleeding during sexual intercourse, excessive urination and vaginal discharge.
